• Kamal Haasan personally called Charlie to act in 'Enakkul Oruvan' (1984) after seeing him in a stage play. Charlie was a theatre actor with zero film experience at that point. Kamal told him: 'I don't want a comedian. I want a real actor.' That phone call launched Charlie's film career.
