• Suriya and Jyothika first met on the set of Poovellam Kettuppar (1999). Director Vasanth had already cast Suriya, but Jyothika was a last-minute replacement after the original heroine walked out. Suriya later admitted he was nervous because she was already a star from Hindi films.
• On the sets of Kaakha Kaakha (2003), Suriya would deliberately stay in character as the intense cop even between shots. Jyothika, playing his love interest, would crack jokes to break his tension. She later said that contrast — his brooding focus and her lightness — is what made their scenes feel real.
• During the shoot of Uyirile Kalanthathu (2000), Suriya and Jyothika started dating. But they kept it a secret from everyone — including the director. The crew only found out years later when they got married in 2006, right after Sillunu Oru Kaadhal released.
• Jyothika once said about working with Suriya in Perazhagan (2004): 'He played a hunchback and I played a deaf-mute. We couldn't even look at each other normally. But somehow, that film made us fall deeper in love.'
• The success of Kaakha Kaakha (2003) directly inspired the 2006 Hindi film 'Dil Chahta Hai' style bromance — but in Tamil. It also launched a trend of cop-love stories in Tamil cinema, with at least three similar films greenlit in 2004 alone because producers wanted to replicate their pairing.
• In Maayavi (2005), Suriya played a conman and Jyothika played a village girl. They improvised an entire scene where she teaches him to eat with his hands — it wasn't in the script. The director kept it in the final cut because their natural banter felt more real than anything written.
