Unnal Mudiyum Thambi is a 1988 Indian Tamil-language musical drama film written and directed by K. Balachander. The film stars Kamal Haasan, Seetha, and Gemini Ganesan in lead roles. Manorama, Janagaraj, and Nassar appear in supporting roles. The story follows Udayamoorthy, the son of an orthodox Carnatic musician, who rebels against his father's caste discrimination and alcoholism in their village. The film was produced by Kavithalayaa Productions and features a soundtrack composed by Ilaiyaraaja. It received positive critical reception upon its release on 12 August 1988. The film is a remake of Balachander's own Telugu film Rudraveena.

Storyline
Udayamoorthy is the fun-loving son of a strict Carnatic singer. When his father's caste pride leads to a man's death, Udayamoorthy leaves home. He starts a silent revolution to stop alcoholism and help the poor. His father must choose between pride and love.
