The Brahmanandam & D. Ramanaidu partnership

After 9 years apart, they came back together for Parama Veera Chakra (2011). Their work runs across 3 decades of Telugu cinema. They didn't share a set between 2002 and 2011.

From Super Police (1994) to Parama Veera Chakra (2011). It started with Super Police (1994).

The shape of the work

The 1990s belonged to Super Police; the 2010s to Parama Veera Chakra. Brahmanandam acted in every film; D. Ramanaidu acted in all of them. Strictly Telugu cinema — they never crossed industries together.

Partnership facts

  • Brahmanandam was already a star when D. Ramanaidu cast him in 'Super Police' (1994), but Ramanaidu insisted on giving him a full-length comedy track — not just a cameo. That track became the film's biggest talking point.
  • In 'Nee Premakai' (2002), Ramanaidu wrote Brahmanandam's dialogue himself — a rare move for a producer. He knew Brahmanandam could turn even a flat line into gold, so he packed the script with puns that only Brahmanandam could sell.
  • Ramanaidu once said Brahmanandam was the only actor he'd let improvise on set without a rehearsal. Their trust was so deep that Brahmanandam would often change the entire scene's rhythm mid-shot, and Ramanaidu would just nod from the monitor.
  • The comedy track in 'Super Police' (1994) was so popular that it directly inspired a wave of 'comedy-within-action' films in the late 90s — most notably 'Aahaa..!' (1997), which copied the same formula of pairing a serious hero with a manic comedian.
  • Brahmanandam once told an interviewer: 'Ramanaidu garu never gave me a script. He'd just say, "Nuvvu cheppu, nenu teestha" (You say it, I'll shoot it). That freedom is why I did every film he asked.'
  • Their third film 'Parama Veera Chakra' (2011) almost didn't happen — Ramanaidu was hesitant to cast Brahmanandam again after a 9-year gap. Brahmanandam personally called him and said, 'I'll do it for free if the role is funny.' Ramanaidu paid him full price anyway.
