Partnership facts

• They first shared screen space in Dekha Pyar Tumhara (1985), a film that was originally meant to launch a new hero. Both Kapoor and Oberoi were cast as supporting villains — and neither was the first choice. The director, V. Mohan, picked them after his first picks backed out last minute.
• In Mazloom (1986), Kapoor played the loud, manic henchman while Oberoi played the cold, calculating mastermind. Their scenes worked because Oberoi held back his energy, letting Kapoor bounce off him — a rhythm they never repeated with other co-stars.
• Rakhwala (1989) was the only film where they played on the same side — both as loyalists to the hero. That film directly inspired a minor trend in B-movies of the early 90s: pairing two established villains as comic-relief sidekicks in action films.
• Despite making three films together in four years, neither Kapoor nor Oberoi ever shared a meal off-set. Both have separately admitted in interviews that they were too competitive in the 80s to be friendly — they'd exchange lines, then walk away.
• Suresh Oberoi once said in a 1990 interview: 'Shakti and I never became friends. We were like two boxers in the same ring — we respected each other's punch, but we never hugged after the bell.'
