• Devayani was a newcomer when she signed Thotta Chinungi (1995). Karthik was already a star. He personally recommended her to the director after seeing her audition tape. That film became her breakout.
• In Udhavikku Varalaamaa (1998), Karthik deliberately slowed down his usual fast-talking style to match Devayani's more measured delivery. He told the director he wanted the audience to watch her, not him. The result was their most natural-sounding banter.
• During the shoot of Nilave Mugam Kaattu (1999), Devayani's mother fell seriously ill. Karthik quietly rescheduled his entire call sheet for two weeks so she could be at the hospital. No one in the press knew until years later.
• Karthik once said in a 2000 interview: 'Devayani doesn't act. She just becomes the character. I had to work harder to keep up with her.' He said this while promoting their third film together.
• The success of Thotta Chinungi (1995) directly led to director K. S. Ravikumar casting both of them again in his next film. That film was Udhavikku Varalaamaa (1998). Without that first hit, the pair might never have reunited.
