• Manivannan was a writer before he turned director. For his directorial debut Gopurangal Saivathillai (1982), he specifically wrote the female lead with Radha in mind — he had seen her in a small role and believed she could carry the emotional weight. She said yes without reading the full script.
• On the sets of Ambigai Neril Vanthaal (1984), Manivannan would deliberately not give Radha her full dialogue sheet until the morning of the shoot. He wanted her reactions to feel raw and unpolished — and she delivered some of her most natural performances that way.
• After Jallikattu (1987) tanked at the box office, Manivannan called Radha and apologized — he felt he had let her down with a weak script. She told him to stop being dramatic and asked when their next film was starting. That was Ullathil Nalla Ullam (1988).
• Chinnappadass (1989) was the only film in their collaboration where Radha played a mother. That role directly led to her being cast in the iconic mother role in Bharathiraja's Kizhakku Vasal (1990) — a career shift she credits to Manivannan trusting her with that part first.
• Radha once said in an interview: 'Manivannan never treated me like a heroine. He treated me like an actor. That's why I never said no to him, even when the script was weak.'
