• They first shared screen space in 1995's 'Hulchul', but neither was the lead — they were both part of a larger ensemble. The real pairing only clicked 11 years later in '36 China Town', where director Abbas-Mustan deliberately cast them as bumbling cops because they'd both developed a comic timing nobody else in the industry was using at the time.
• In '36 China Town', Rawal played the loud, reactive straight man while Khanna played the deadpan, slow-burn observer. Khanna later admitted in an interview that he deliberately underplayed every line because he knew Rawal would fill the silence with his physical comedy — they never stepped on each other's punchlines.
• Despite making five films together, they never once hung out socially outside a set. Khanna once told a journalist they'd exchange exactly three words before a scene: 'Ready?' 'Yeah.' 'Action.' Then go back to their separate corners. No dinners, no phone calls, no bad blood — just pure professional respect.
• Their double-act in '36 China Town' directly inspired the comic-relief cop duo in Priyadarshan's 'Bhool Bhulaiyaa' (2007) — the writer admitted he wrote the Rajpal Yadav-Paresh Rawal scenes after watching how Rawal and Khanna bounced off each other in that film.

• In 'Aakrosh' (2010), their only dramatic film together, Rawal played a corrupt politician and Khanna played a righteous CBI officer.
