• Vikraman and Charlie never socialized outside work. They met only on set, discussed only the scene, and went home separately. Charlie once said in an interview that their entire relationship was 'strictly professional — no coffee, no phone calls.'
• Charlie said about Vikraman: 'He never praised me on set. Not once. But after 'Poove Unakkaga' released, he called me at 2 AM and said, 'You made my film.' That was the only compliment I ever got from him.'
• In 'Unnai Ninaithu' (2002), Vikraman deliberately wrote a role that required Charlie to play against his usual comic-tragic style. Charlie had to be stoic and silent for most of the film. Vikraman pushed him to strip away all his mannerisms — and Charlie hated it, but did it anyway.
• Vikraman cast Charlie in 'Pudhu Vasantham' (1990) after seeing him in a stage play. Charlie was a theatre actor with zero film experience. Vikraman took a risk on him because he needed someone who could cry on cue without glycerin.
• On the sets of 'Poove Unakkaga' (1996), Vikraman would write dialogues in the morning and hand them to Charlie just before the shot. Charlie had to memorize and deliver them in one take. That raw, unpolished energy became the film's signature.
• The success of 'Poove Unakkaga' (1996) directly launched the career of actress Meena in Tamil cinema. Vikraman and Charlie's film gave her the breakthrough role that made her a household name.
