• They first shared screen space in Khoobsurat (1999), but the real spark came when Sanjay Dutt personally requested Om Puri to play the villain in Kurukshetra (2000). Om was hesitant about action films, but Sanjay convinced him over dinner at his home.
• In Pitaah (2002), Om Puri played a ruthless feudal lord while Sanjay Dutt was the righteous son. Om deliberately slowed his dialogue delivery in their confrontation scenes to make Sanjay's explosive anger land harder — a trick he taught Sanjay on set.
