• Janagaraj was a popular comedian when he was cast opposite K. R. Vijaya in 'Iru Medhaigal' (1984). But the director had to convince Vijaya — she was hesitant to play a romantic lead opposite a comedian, worried it would undercut her serious image. She agreed only after reading the full script and seeing how the role balanced humour with pathos.
• In 'Kaaval Nilayam' (1991), Janagaraj deliberately slowed down his comic timing in scenes with Vijaya. He later said in an interview that she had a 'natural gravity' on screen — if he rushed his lines, the scene felt lopsided. So he let her set the rhythm, and he followed. That's why their banter feels so relaxed.
• On the sets of 'Kavalai Padathe Sagodhara' (1998), Janagaraj would bring homemade snacks from his wife's kitchen for Vijaya every single day. • Janagaraj once said about Vijaya: 'She doesn't act — she becomes the character. I had to work twice as hard just to keep up with her. But that's what made our scenes together feel real.' He said this in a 1999 interview with a Tamil weekly.
• Their pairing in 'Iru Medhaigal' (1984) was one of the earliest Tamil films to show a middle-aged couple dealing with everyday marital friction — not as a joke, but with warmth.
