Partnership facts

• Govinda was already a rising star when he signed Suhaagan (1986), but director Rama Rao Tatineni was hesitant. Govinda personally convinced Tatineni he could pull off the emotional beats alongside the comedy. That film became his first major solo hit.
• Tatineni shot Govinda's dance sequences in Muqabla (1993) in single takes. He told Govinda to just 'go wild' during the song 'Koi To Aayega' — that raw energy became the scene's signature. Govinda later said Tatineni gave him the freedom to improvise like no other director.
• Beti No.1 (2000) was the last time Tatineni directed Govinda. The film's success directly led to Tatineni casting Govinda in his next project — but that film never got made because Tatineni passed away in 2002. Their partnership ended with an unfinished script.
• On the sets of Suhaagan, Tatineni would personally cook South Indian food for the entire crew every Sunday. Govinda, a vegetarian, would sit with him and eat from the same plate. They called it their 'Sunday ritual' and kept it up for all three films.
