• They only teamed up in the late '80s because both were past their solo superstar peaks. Shammi was 58 in Batwara (1989), Dharmendra was 54. They leaned into playing older, authoritative father-figure roles together — a second act for both.
• In Mast Kalandar (1991), Shammi played the comic sidekick to Dharmendra's hero. It was a role reversal — Shammi, the original 'rockstar' of the '60s, willingly played second fiddle to Dharmendra's action-man persona. He even did a goofy drunk act in the song 'Mast Kalandar' that Dharmendra later said 'only Shammi could pull off without looking foolish.'
