• In Hoshiyar (1985), Asrani played Pran's sidekick — a rare shift where the comic relief actually bounced off a villain's deadpan. Pran never laughed at his own jokes, so Asrani had to overreact twice as hard to get the audience to laugh. That push-pull became their signature rhythm.
• Pran personally recommended Asrani for the role in Pataal Bhairavi (1985) after the director struggled to cast the comic sidekick. Asrani later said Pran called him 'the only actor who could make me look good without stealing my thunder.'
• Their first film together, Hoshiyar (1985), almost didn't happen. Asrani was initially hesitant to play second fiddle to a villain — until Pran told him, 'A good comic is the villain's best friend. Without you, I'm just a man in a cape.' Asrani signed the next day.
• The only reason Dilwaala (1986) got a theatrical release in smaller circuits was because distributors saw 'Pran and Asrani' on the poster and assumed it was a comedy. It wasn't — but that mistaken identity led to a brief trend of pairing villains with comedians in B-movie titles.
• Asrani once told a trade magazine: 'Pran saab would finish his dialogue, then look at me with those eyes — and I knew I had to top it. He made me work for my laughs.'
• In Isi Ka Naam Zindagi (1992), Pran played a blind man and Asrani played his caretaker. Pran deliberately stayed in character between takes, so Asrani had to physically guide him around set — which made their on-screen dependency feel real, not acted.
