• They first shared screen space in Nazrana Pyar Ka (1980), but neither was the original lead. The film was a launch vehicle for a new hero who dropped out last minute. The producers scrambled and paired two relative newcomers together — and that accidental pairing became their only real hit as a duo.
• In Aaj (1987), Raj Babbar played the intense, brooding husband while Raj Kiran played the charming, conflicted lover. The director later said Babbar would set the emotional temperature of a scene with his stillness, and Kiran would then improvise around it — Kiran's nervous energy only worked because Babbar gave him a calm anchor to bounce off.
• Despite making four films together, they never became friends off-screen. On the sets of Ahsaan (1987), they reportedly didn't speak to each other unless the director forced them to rehearse. The tension was so visible that the film's editor had to cut around their lack of eye contact in several scenes.
• Raj Kiran once told a trade magazine: 'Babbar ji and I never had a single meal together. Not one. We'd finish our shot and walk to opposite corners of the set. It wasn't ego — we just had nothing to say to each other.'
• Their only film that made any noise at the box office was Nazrana Pyar Ka (1980). Its modest success directly led to the production of two more films with the same pair — Saajan Mere Main Saajan Ki (1980) and Ahsaan (1987). Without that first film's surprise run, the other three would never have been greenlit.
