• Hrishikesh Mukherjee cast Raj Babbar in 'Achha Bura' (1983) after seeing his raw intensity in 'Insaaf Ka Tarazu' — but the role was originally written for a softer, more established star. Babbar had to audition twice to convince Mukherjee he could play the conflicted husband.
• On the set of 'Jhoothi' (1985), Mukherjee would deliberately under-direct Babbar in emotional scenes. He told Babbar: 'Just react. Don't act.' That one instruction changed how Babbar approached every dramatic scene after that film.
• After 'Namumkin' (1988) flopped, Mukherjee called Babbar to his office and said, 'You're too good for these scripts. Wait for better.' Babbar later admitted that conversation made him turn down five quick-money roles in 1989.
• Raj Babbar once said in an interview: 'Hrishida never shouted at me. He would just look at me with those sad eyes, and I'd feel like I'd let my father down. That look made me work harder than any director ever could.'
• The only reason 'Achha Bura' got made was because Mukherjee wanted to prove he could still make a film about middle-class morality without a superstar. Babbar's performance in that film directly led to him being cast in 'Mujhe Insaaf Chahiye' (1984) — a role that defined his angry-young-man phase.
