• They first shared screen space in Jaani Dushman (1979), but the real spark came when Sanjeev Kumar personally requested Shatrughan Sinha to play the villain in Qatl (1986). Shatrughan was initially hesitant because the role was too dark, but Sanjeev convinced him over dinner at his home.
• In Haathkadi (1982), Sanjeev Kumar played the calm, methodical cop while Shatrughan Sinha was the hot-headed criminal. Sanjeev deliberately slowed down his dialogue delivery in their face-off scenes to make Shatrughan's explosive style pop even more. Shatrughan later admitted Sanjeev 'taught him how to pause for effect.'
• Their only film that didn't bomb at the box office was Qatl (1986). It was a rare whodunit where both played suspects, and its twist ending directly inspired the climax of the 1992 thriller Nishchaiy (starring Vinod Khanna and Sunny Deol).
• Off-screen, they were polar opposites. Sanjeev was a quiet introvert who read books between shots; Shatrughan was loud, cracking jokes with the crew. But on the sets of Ram Tere Kitne Nam (1985), Sanjeev would quietly slip Shatrughan notes with suggestions for his scenes — never in front of anyone.
• Shatrughan Sinha once said in an interview: 'Sanjeev Kumar was the only actor who could make me nervous. When we did Chehre Pe Chehra (1981), I kept forgetting my lines because I was so busy watching him act.'
