• Subhash Ghai cast them together in Ram Lakhan (1989) because he wanted two actors who could switch between comedy and drama in the same breath. He later said he wrote the roles specifically for their contrasting energies — Jaffrey's polished, measured delivery against Kher's raw, explosive style.
• In Dil (1990), Kher played the strict father and Jaffrey played the comic uncle. Kher later admitted he deliberately underplayed his scenes with Jaffrey because Jaffrey's timing was so precise that any overacting would throw the rhythm off. Jaffrey, in turn, would slow his pace to match Kher's intensity in emotional beats.
• On the sets of Ram Lakhan, Jaffrey took Kher aside and told him to stop shouting in every scene. He said: 'You have a face that can do the work. Trust it.' Kher later called that the single most important acting advice he ever received.
• Anupam Kher once said about Saeed Jaffrey: 'He taught me that acting is not about volume. It's about listening. I was a loud actor before him. After Ram Lakhan, I became a quieter one.'
• Their father-son dynamic in Dil (1990) directly inspired the casting of Kher and Shah Rukh Khan in Darr (1993). Yash Chopra saw how Kher balanced authority with vulnerability opposite Jaffrey's warmth, and wanted that same tension for the father-daughter relationship in Darr.
• After Uff! Yeh Mohabbat (1997) flopped, Jaffrey moved back to London and Kher's career exploded. They never worked together again. But Kher kept a framed photo of the two of them from the Ram Lakhan set in his office until Jaffrey's death in 2015.
