
Kalathur Kannamma(1960)
'Kalathur Kannamma' is a 1960 Indian Tamil-language romantic drama film directed by A. Bhimsingh. It stars Gemini Ganesan as Rajalingam, Savitri as Kannamma, and introduces a six-year-old Kamal Haasan as Selvam. The story follows a wealthy zamindar's son and a farmer's daughter who marry secretly but are torn apart by class prejudice and a cruel lie. Their son grows up in an orphanage, unaware of his parents. The film is notable for being Kamal Haasan's debut, for which he won the President's Gold Medal. It was a critical and commercial success, running for over 100 days in theatres. The film won the National Film Award for Best Feature Film in Tamil – Certificate of Merit. It was released on 12 August 1960.
