
Mirch Masala(1987)
Mirch Masala is a 1987 Hindi psychological thriller film directed by Ketan Mehta. It stars Smita Patil and Naseeruddin Shah in lead roles. Set in colonial India during the early 1940s, the story follows Sonbai, a village woman who refuses the sexual advances of a powerful tax collector. She takes refuge in a spice factory, where the old gatekeeper protects her. The film explores themes of resistance, women's unity, and colonial oppression. Storyline
In colonial India, a powerful tax collector called the Subedar sets his sights on Sonbai, a married village woman. When she slaps him and refuses his advances, he vows to have her. Sonbai hides in a spice factory. The old gatekeeper, Abu Mian, locks the doors. The Subedar threatens to destroy the entire village if she is not handed over. The village turns against her. But Sonbai and the women of the factory prepare to fight back.
