• Mahie Gill was cast as Anupam Kher's wife in Dabangg (2010) only after the director, Abhinav Kashyap, saw her raw intensity in Dev.D. Kher had no say in the casting — he met her for the first time on set, during their first scene together.
• In Dabangg, Kher played the timid, henpecked father while Gill played the loud, aggressive mother. Kher deliberately underplayed every reaction to make Gill's shouting seem even more overpowering — he told her on set, 'You scream, I'll shrink. That's the scene.'
• During the shoot of Gang of Ghosts (2014), Kher and Gill discovered they both shared a love for old Kishore Kumar songs. They would sit in Kher's vanity van between takes and sing duets — Gill later said it was the only thing that got them through that film's chaotic schedule.
