Partnership facts

• For Aduthathu (2011), director S. S. Stanley had already locked Ilavarasu for a key role. But he needed a younger actor to play the lead's friend. Ilavarasu personally recommended Sriman, who was struggling for work at the time. That one call got Sriman the part.
• In Sadhurangam (2011), Sriman played a hot-headed village youth while Ilavarasu played his weary father. Sriman later said Ilavarasu deliberately underplayed every scene — forcing Sriman to raise his own energy to fill the silence. That push-pull made their confrontation scenes crackle.
• On the sets of Aduthathu, Ilavarasu noticed Sriman was skipping meals to save money. Without telling anyone, Ilavarasu started ordering extra biryani for the unit and made sure Sriman got the first plate. They never talked about it, but Sriman still calls him 'anna' off-camera.
• Naai Sekar (2022) was originally written for a solo lead. But after Sriman and Ilavarasu did a test scene together, the director rewrote the entire second half to give them a buddy-comedy track. That track became the most-shared clip from the film on social media.
• Sriman told a YouTube interview in 2022: 'Ilavarasu sir doesn't act with you. He listens to you. In Sadhurangam, I forgot my lines once. He just kept looking at me with those tired eyes — and I suddenly knew what my character was supposed to feel.'
