• Prathap K. Pothan was a busy editor when he decided to direct Chaitanya (1990). He cast Gouthami as the lead because he needed an actress who could carry a complex, emotional arc — and she was the only one who said yes without asking for script changes.
• On the sets of Magudam (1992), Prathap would deliberately give Gouthami minimal direction for her emotional scenes. He later said she worked best when left to find the character herself — and her raw takes often made him reshoot his own setups to match her intensity.
• During the shoot of Athma (1993), Gouthami would cook traditional Andhra meals for the entire crew every Sunday. Prathap, a strict vegetarian, would always sit next to her and eat first — a small ritual that became their unspoken bond on set.
