Anandaraj was still finding his footing as a character actor, and Livingston reportedly pushed for him in the role after seeing him in a small cameo.
• In 'Ashoka' (2008), their scenes worked because Livingston played the coiled, silent fury while Anandaraj did all the talking. Anandaraj would improvise long monologues on set, and Livingston would just stare him down — the director kept the camera on Livingston's face because that silence was the real punch.
