• They first met on the set of 'Purusha Lakshanam' (1993) because the director, K. Subash, wanted a fresh pair. Jayaram was already a star in Malayalam, and Kushboo was the reigning queen of Tamil. The director bet that their contrasting energies — his easy charm, her fiery screen presence — would click. It did.
• In 'Kolangal' (1995), Kushboo deliberately slowed down her dialogue delivery to match Jayaram's natural, unhurried rhythm. She later told a magazine that she learned to 'breathe with his pauses' — that's why their arguments in that film feel like real couple fights, not staged shouting.
• During the shoot of 'Manasu Rendum Pudhusu' (1994), Jayaram would bring homemade Kerala snacks to set every day. Kushboo, a vegetarian, got hooked on his mother's banana chips. She joked that she signed 'Murai Maman' (1995) just to keep the snack supply coming.
• Their pairing in 'Pathini' (1997) was so convincing as a married couple that director K. Subash reused their dynamic for his next film — but swapped Kushboo with a younger actress. That film? 'Kadhalukku Mariyadhai' (1997), which launched a whole new romantic template in Tamil cinema.
• Kushboo once said in an interview: 'Jayaram is the only co-star who made me forget the camera was rolling. We'd finish a scene and the spot boy would have to tell us to stop talking.'
• After 'Ponnar Shankar' (2011) — their last film together — they didn't speak for years.
