• Swathi was already a known face when she signed Deva (1995), but Manivannan was a character actor stepping into a lead role for the first time. She personally asked the director to cast him, saying she needed someone who could match her intensity — not just a hero.
• On the sets of Selva (1996), Manivannan would deliberately flub his lines in the first take to make Swathi laugh. She then used that real irritation in her next take — turning his prank into her performance. The director kept that dynamic in the final cut.
• After Asathal (2001) bombed so hard that theatres pulled it in three days, Swathi and Manivannan didn't speak for two years. A mutual friend finally got them to meet at a tea stall in Chennai.
