• Senthamarai was a stage veteran when Muthuraman cast her in Annai Abirami (1972). He specifically wanted an actress who could carry the emotional weight of a mother goddess role without overacting. She was his first and only choice.
• In Uravu Solla Oruvan (1975), Muthuraman played a hot-headed young man while Senthamarai played his mother. The film's most talked-about scene is a silent confrontation between them — no dialogue, just her eyes and his guilt. Muthuraman later said he learned to act with his eyes from that scene.
• On the sets of Chitra Pournami (1976), Senthamarai would bring homemade snacks for the entire crew. Muthuraman, known for being a health freak, would only eat the ones she made. The unit joked she was his real-life mother too.
