• Kushboo and Charle first shared screen space in 'Dharmathin Thalaivan' (1988) because the director needed a comedian who could match her fast-paced dialogue delivery. Charle was brought in specifically to spar with her in a courtroom scene — and they ended up rewriting the scene together on set.
• In 'Varusham Padhinaaru' (1989), Charle would deliberately flub his lines to make Kushboo break character. She'd then improvise a comeback that was sharper than the script. The director kept the cameras rolling because those unscripted exchanges got the biggest laughs in the theatre.
• During the shoot of 'Purusha Lakshanam' (1993), Kushboo and Charle developed a ritual: before every scene together, they'd bet a cup of filter coffee on who could make the other laugh first. Charle lost most bets, but he said he didn't mind because her laugh was 'the only sound that made the coffee taste better'.
• The success of their comic timing in 'Gopala Gopala' (1996) — despite the film tanking — directly inspired director K. S. Ravikumar to cast them as a bickering couple in a short segment for his 1997 anthology film. That segment became the template for the 'husband-wife comedy track' that dominated Tamil cinema in the late 90s.
• Charle once said in a 1998 interview: 'Kushboo is the only actress who made me forget I was a comedian. She treated me like a co-star, not a sidekick. That's why I never said no to any film she asked me to be in.'
• After 'Pathini' (1997), Kushboo and Charle stopped working together for nearly a decade — not because of a fallout, but because Charle quietly told her he didn't want to be 'the guy who only works with Kushboo'. She respected that, and they only reunited once more, for a cameo in 2006.
