• They first met on the set of Villadhi Villain (1995), but neither was the first choice. The director brought them in as replacements after the original cast dropped out last minute. Sathyaraj later said they bonded over being 'the backup plan'.
• In Military (2003), Sathyaraj played the straight-laced hero while Mayilsamy improvised nearly all his dialogue. The director let Mayilsamy run wild because Sathyaraj's deadpan reactions made every ad-lib land harder. They never rehearsed together — they wanted the surprise to feel real on camera.
• Mayilsamy was a huge fan of Sathyaraj before they worked together. On the first day of Villadhi Villain, he was too nervous to speak. Sathyaraj broke the ice by making him rehearse a scene in full costume at a roadside tea stall. They stayed friends off-screen for 24 years.
• Their pairing in Kanchana 3 (2019) directly inspired the comedy track in the 2021 hit 'Doctor'. The writer admitted in an interview that he rewatched their scenes from Kanchana 3 to study how a serious hero and a frantic sidekick can trade beats without stepping on each other.
• Mayilsamy once said in a 2017 interview: 'Sathyaraj sir doesn't just act with you — he listens to you. Most heroes wait for their turn to speak. He waits for my pause. That's why our comedy never felt rushed.'
• In Motta Shiva Ketta Shiva (2017), they played brothers for the first time. Sathyaraj deliberately slowed down his dialogue delivery to match Mayilsamy's stammering comic rhythm. The editor later said they had to cut fewer reaction shots than usual because both actors were instinctively mirroring each other's timing.
