• Vanitha Krishnachandran was a popular TV anchor before films. Thengai Srinivasan spotted her on a show and personally recommended her to director for 'Rani Theni' (1982). That was her first film.
• In 'Nandri, Meendum Varuga' (1982), Thengai played a strict father while Vanitha played his daughter. He deliberately broke his usual comic timing to give her space to deliver emotional scenes. She later said he 'held back his jokes so I could cry properly.'
• On the sets of 'Alaya Deepam' (1984), Thengai would rehearse Vanitha's lines with her before every take — even though he wasn't in those scenes. He did it because she was nervous about her Tamil diction.
