• Raghuvaran was not the first choice for Anjali (1990). Director Mani Ratnam wanted a different actor for the role of the troubled father. Revathi, who was already cast as the mother, personally pushed for Raghuvaran, insisting he had the right intensity for the part.
• In Anjali, Raghuvaran and Revathi shot the climactic hospital scene in one continuous take. Raghuvaran set the emotional pace by breaking down first, and Revathi matched his grief beat-for-beat without any rehearsal. The director kept the camera rolling because neither wanted to cut.
• During the shoot of Paasamalargal (1994), Raghuvaran and Revathi developed a private ritual: before every emotional scene, they would sit silently for two minutes, holding hands. Revathi later said it helped them sync their breathing and avoid overacting.
• The success of Anjali directly led to Raghuvaran being cast in a string of father roles in the 1990s. Revathi's performance as the mother in that film also set the template for how Tamil cinema wrote strong, grieving mothers for the next decade.
• Revathi once said in an interview: 'Raghuvaran never acted. He just became the character. I had to work twice as hard to keep up with him. He made me a better actress.'
• Thotta Chinungi (1995) was originally offered to a younger pair. But the producer insisted on Raghuvaran and Revathi because he wanted the same 'Anjali magic' — even though the script was a dark thriller, not a family drama.
