• Roja Selvamani was already a Tamil star when she signed Pokkiri Raja (1994). Ali was a relative newcomer. She personally asked the director to cast him as her co-star after seeing his comic timing in a stage show.
• In Ghatotkachudu (1995), Ali improvised a full 3-minute comedy monologue during a serious scene. Roja broke character and laughed so hard the director kept the take. That scene became the film's most replayed moment.
