• Thevar was a stage actor first. Raghavan spotted him in a play and insisted the director of 'Ramu' (1966) cast him. That play was the only audition Thevar ever needed.
• In 'Ethiroli' (1970), Raghavan played the calm, calculating villain. Thevar played the hot-headed enforcer. They built tension by never looking at each other during their scenes — Raghavan would stare at a wall, Thevar would stare at the floor. The director said it made the audience feel like they were in the same room but a world apart.
• Their only comedy together, 'Maanavan' (1970), was the first Tamil film to use a split-screen gag for a chase sequence. That gag was copied by a dozen B-movies in the 70s, including a 1973 film that launched a minor star.
• They never spoke off-camera. Not once. Thevar later said, 'We respected each other too much to waste time on small talk. We saved our words for the scene.' They'd nod at each other before 'action' and walk away after 'cut'.
