• Pushpalatha was already a star when M. R. Radha was still a supporting actor. Their first film together, Kongunattu Thangam (1961), was actually Radha's big break — he got the lead role because the original hero walked out over a payment dispute. Pushpalatha insisted the director keep Radha on, and the film became a hit.
• On set, Radha would deliberately flub his lines in the first take just to make Pushpalatha laugh. She'd get annoyed, then nail her dialogue with extra sharpness. That push-pull — his mischief, her controlled fury — became their signature in films like Saradha (1962) and Pachai Vilakku (1964).
• Their pairing in Aalayamani (1962) was so popular that it directly inspired a wave of 'family drama with a strong female lead' films in Tamil cinema through the mid-60s. Producers started specifically asking for 'a Pushpalatha-Radha type pair' for their projects.
• Off-screen, they barely spoke. Pushpalatha was deeply religious and avoided Radha's drinking. But every single shoot day, without fail, Radha would bring her a fresh jasmine garland before the first shot. She never acknowledged it. He never stopped.
• Pushpalatha once told a magazine: 'Radha was the only co-star who made me forget the camera. I didn't act with him — I reacted.' She said this in a 1965 interview for Kumudam, after their last film together.
