• Saroja Devi was the bigger star when they first paired up in Panakkara Kudumbam (1964). Manohar was still finding his footing. She reportedly insisted the director cast him opposite her after seeing his stage work.
• In Naan Aanaiyittal (1966), Manohar played the villain while Saroja Devi played the heroine. Their scenes crackled because she refused to play scared — she matched his intensity beat for beat, forcing him to dial up his menace. He later said she made him a better actor.
• During the shoot of Arasa Kattalai (1967), Saroja Devi would bring homemade snacks for the entire crew. Manohar, who was notoriously frugal, would quietly slip her money for ingredients. She never told anyone until decades later.
