• Suruli Rajan was a stage comedian before films. V. K. Ramasamy spotted him during a drama performance in the early 1970s and insisted the director cast him in Sondham (1973). That film became Rajan's big break into mainstream Tamil cinema.
• In Aayiram Jenmangal (1978), Ramasamy played the straight-laced father while Suruli Rajan played the comic sidekick. Rajan would improvise punchlines on set, and Ramasamy would deliberately pause his serious dialogue to let the laugh land — a rhythm they perfected together.
• Their only non-comedy collaboration, Saranam Ayyappa (1980), was a devotional film about Lord Ayyappa. It became a surprise hit in Kerala and Tamil Nadu, directly inspiring a wave of Ayyappa-themed films in the early 80s — a genre that didn't exist before this pair tested it.
• On the sets of Kashmir Kadhali (1983), Ramasamy and Rajan shared a room in a small lodge in Srinagar for 45 days. Rajan later told a magazine that Ramasamy would wake him up at 5 AM every day to practice their scenes together before anyone else arrived.
