Partnership facts

• Director P. Vasu cast them together for the first time in Uzhavan Magan (1987) because he wanted two actors who could switch between comedy and emotion without missing a beat. Vasu later said he picked them specifically because both had theatre backgrounds and could improvise on set.
• In Rasave Unnai Nambi (1988), Vasudevan would set the emotional tone of a scene first, and Chandran would then undercut it with a deadpan one-liner. Chandran later admitted he deliberately waited for Vasudevan's cue because 'his timing made my jokes land harder.'
• During the shoot of Pongi Varum Kaveri (1989), Vasudevan and Chandran shared a room in a small lodge near the river set. They would rehearse their scenes at night by candlelight because the power kept cutting. Chandran's son later said they became 'like brothers' during that film.
• The success of their comic track in Uzhavan Magan (1987) directly led to director P. Vasu casting them again in Rasave Unnai Nambi. That film's comedy scenes were later referenced in the 1990s TV show 'Comedy Time' as a template for double-act timing.
• S. S. Chandran once told a magazine: 'Malaysia Vasudevan was the only co-star who could make me laugh even when the director said cut. He'd whisper something in Tamil, and I'd lose it. We ruined many takes that way.'
