• Kamal Haasan was just 18 and Sivakumar was already a star when they first faced the camera together in Arangetram (1973). Director K. Balachander paired them deliberately — he wanted a raw newcomer to bounce off Sivakumar's seasoned energy, and the gamble paid off instantly.
• In Sollathaan Ninaikkiren (1973), Sivakumar played the comic relief while Kamal played the straight man — a role reversal that shocked audiences. Sivakumar later admitted Kamal's timing forced him to up his comedy game, making that film a rare double-act where the senior actor learned from the junior.
• During the shoot of Gumasthavin Magal (1974), Kamal and Sivakumar shared a tiny room in a lodge near the set. Sivakumar would cook simple meals for both of them because Kamal couldn't afford hotel food. They never told the crew — it became their private ritual for every film together.
