Partnership facts

• Rajiv Kanakala was the one who pushed for M. S. Narayana to be cast in Naaga (2003). The director was unsure, but Rajiv insisted Narayana’s comic timing would save the film’s dull second half.
• In Dookudu (2011), Narayana’s character was written as a straight-faced foil to Rajiv’s hyperactive sidekick. Rajiv would deliberately over-deliver his lines to make Narayana break character — and the outtakes became a running joke on set.
• Their double-act in Dookudu (2011) directly inspired the comic duo template for the 2014 film Race Gurram. The writers admitted they wanted a similar “loud guy + deadpan guy” pairing for Brahmanandam and Ali.
• Rajiv Kanakala and M. S. Narayana never hung out outside work. Rajiv once said in an interview that Narayana was “too shy to even say hello” between shots, so all their bonding happened only in front of the camera.
