Tirulokchandar cast Sharada first, then handpicked Major Sundarrajan to play her husband — it was the first time either of them worked with the other, and the pairing clicked so well that the director wrote a bigger role for Sundarrajan midway through shooting.
• In Simma Soppanam (1984), Sharada’s character is the quiet, suffering wife while Major Sundarrajan plays the loud, impulsive husband — but on set, it was the reverse: Sundarrajan would quietly rehearse his lines alone, while Sharada would walk him through emotional beats to help him underplay the anger. She literally coached him to be less theatrical.
