• Sripriya was already a star when she agreed to act opposite V. S. Raghavan in 'En Kelvikku Enna Bathil' (1978). Raghavan was a character actor making a rare lead turn. She pushed the producer to cast him, saying his intensity would balance her comic timing.
• In 'Vetrikku Oruvan' (1979), Sripriya deliberately slowed her dialogue delivery to match Raghavan's deliberate, gravelly style. She later told a magazine that she learned to 'listen on screen' from him — he made her pause, which made their arguments land harder.
• During the shoot of 'Maria, My Darling' (1980), Raghavan would bring Sripriya homemade lemon rice every morning. She returned the favour by teaching him Tamil tongue twisters to improve his diction for the film's long monologues.
• Their pairing in 'Thanikattu Raja' (1982) was so convincing as a mismatched couple that director K. Shankar reused their dynamic for his next film — swapping Sripriya with a younger actress, but keeping Raghavan's role identical. The template stuck.
