Singampuli and Rajendran appeared together in 15 Tamil films between 2009 and 2025. Their highest-rated collaboration was Naan Kadavul (2009 — 7.6/10). Films span Naan Kadavul (2009) through Konja Naal Poru Thaliva (2025).
The Singampuli & Rajendran partnership
Their work runs across 3 decades of Tamil cinema. 2019 was their peak — 3 films in twelve months. For 16 years, a Singampuli–Rajendran film arrived almost every year.
From Naan Kadavul (2009) to Konja Naal Poru Thaliva (2025). Their most recent film, Konja Naal Poru Thaliva, came out in 2025 — the partnership is still active.
The shape of the work
The 2000s belonged to Naan Kadavul; the 2020s to Aranmanai 4. Singampuli acted in every film; Rajendran acted in all of them. Strictly Tamil cinema — they never crossed industries together.
Partnership facts
- They first met on the set of Naan Kadavul (2009), but not as co-stars. Rajendran was an assistant director on that film. Singampuli was acting. Rajendran later told an interviewer he was so impressed by Singampuli's comic timing that he begged director Bala to let him act opposite him in a scene. Bala said no — but Rajendran kept pushing until he got a small role. That one scene became their first on-screen pairing.
- In every film, Singampuli set the rhythm and Rajendran followed. Singampuli would deliver his lines in a fast, staccato burst, then pause. Rajendran learned to wait for that pause before jumping in with his deadpan reply. They never rehearsed this — it just clicked on the first take of Naan Kadavul and they kept it for 14 films.
- Their comedy track in Maniyaar Kudumbam (2018) was so popular that the director, Rajesh, wrote a separate spin-off script just for them. That script never got made, but it directly inspired the comedy duo format that later films like Pei Mama and Anandham Vilayadum Veedu used. Without that one track, those two films wouldn't exist.
- On every single shoot, Singampuli brought homemade snacks — usually murukku or banana chips — and shared them only with Rajendran. Rajendran never brought anything. When asked why, he said, 'He's the elder brother. That's his job.' They never discussed it. It was just the rule.
- Rajendran once said in a 2022 podcast: 'Singampuli is the only actor who can make me laugh even when I'm not in the mood. I've done 200 films. With him, I never felt like I was working.'
