• Manivannan handpicked Prashanth for 'Rasa Magan' (1994) after seeing his debut 'Vetri Vizha' — but only after Prashanth agreed to shave his moustache and look more raw. The director wanted a boy-next-door, not a polished hero.
• On the sets of 'Aanazhagan' (1995), Manivannan would deliberately mess up his lines in the first take to make Prashanth laugh — then use the second take for the actual shot. Prashanth later said this loosened him up and made his performance more natural.
• Manivannan and Prashanth had a standing bet on every film: if the movie ran for 100 days, Prashanth had to treat the entire crew to biryani. Prashanth lost on 'Hello' (1999) — it flopped — but paid for biryani anyway as a joke.
• Prashanth once said in an interview: 'Manivannan sir never let me act like a star. He’d say, “You’re just a boy from the next street — act like it.” That’s why our films felt real.'
• The success of 'Rasa Magan' (1994) directly led to Manivannan casting Prashanth again in 'Aanazhagan' — and that film’s village-boy-meets-city-girl template was later copied by at least three low-budget Tamil films in 1996.
• In 'Piriyadha Varam Vendum' (2001), Manivannan wrote a 10-minute monologue for Prashanth’s character — then scrapped it on the day of shooting and told him to improvise. Prashanth’s raw, stammering version became the film’s most praised scene.
