• Nihalani didn't want Puri for Aakrosh (1980). He thought Puri's voice was too theatrical. Puri begged for a screen test. Nihalani gave in — and that test became the film's most famous scene.
• On Ardh Satya (1983), Nihalani made Puri drop his signature booming baritone. He forced him to whisper, mumble, and pause. Puri later said that was the first time he understood 'internal acting'.
• Their Aakrosh (1980) launched the 'angry young man' wave in parallel cinema — a full three years before Deewar. Without that film, Om Puri's career might have gone very differently.
