• They first faced off in Kaala Patthar (1979) because Yash Chopra needed a fiery pairing to match the coal-mine setting. Amitabh was already a star, but Raakhee was cast as a strong-willed nurse — and their tension in the film was so real that Chopra immediately signed them for Barsaat Ki Ek Raat (1981).
• In Shakti (1982), their on-screen father-daughter bond was so intense that Amitabh later admitted Raakhee’s emotional depth forced him to dial down his own larger-than-life style. He said she made him act with his eyes, not his fists.
• Laawaris (1981) gave Bollywood the iconic anthem 'Mere Angne Mein' — a song that became a wedding staple across North India. The film’s success also launched the trend of Amitabh playing a lost son reunited by a mother (Raakhee), a template later copied in films like Aaj Ka Daur (1985).
• Despite playing mother-son in Laawaris and Shakti, Raakhee was only 7 years older than Amitabh. Off-screen, they shared a warm, teasing bond — she called him 'Bachchan sahab' on set, but he’d joke that she was his 'younger mother' because she looked so youthful.
• Amitabh once said about Raakhee: 'She doesn’t act — she lives the character. In Shakti, I was just reacting to her truth.' He said this in a 1983 interview with Stardust, calling her the most underrated actress of their generation.
