Partnership facts

• They first shared screen space in Ghulami (1985), but the pairing almost didn't happen. Director J.P. Dutta was unsure about casting Anita Raj opposite Mithun because she was still new to Hindi films. Mithun personally vouched for her after seeing her work in a Telugu film.
• In Hiraasat (1987), Mithun played a blind man and Anita played his caretaker. She later said in an interview that Mithun insisted on staying in character between takes — he'd keep his eyes closed even during lunch breaks — which made her performance more natural because she had to genuinely guide him around.
• After Sagar Sangam (1988) bombed hard, Anita Raj reportedly stopped taking calls from Mithun's production team for nearly a decade. They didn't speak again until 2022, when Mithun called her personally to ask her to cameo in Anari is Backk (2023). She said yes only because he apologized for the 'disaster film' first.
• Anita Raj told a film magazine in 2023: 'Mithun da and I never had a single fight on set. But after Sagar Sangam, I didn't want to see his face for 30 years. Now we laugh about it.'
• Their film Saazish (1988) was one of the earliest Hindi movies to feature a female antagonist as the main villain. Anita Raj played the cold-blooded killer — a role that later inspired the character of 'Mona Darling' in the 1990s cult hit Baazigar.
