Partnership facts

• They first met on the set of Aagman (1982) because both were cast as villains — but the director, K. Bapaiah, deliberately pitted them against each other in a single scene to see who would blink first. Neither did. That scene became the film's selling point.
• In Aitbaar (1985), Oberoi played the calm, coiled predator while Saxena played the explosive brute. Oberoi later told a trade magazine that Saxena's unpredictability forced him to underplay every line — because if both went loud, the scene would collapse.
• During the shoot of Rakhwala (1989), Saxena's father passed away. Oberoi quietly paid for the funeral and didn't tell anyone until years later. Saxena found out from a production assistant.
• Their face-off in Ajay (1996) — a 12-minute unbroken sequence where they circle each other in a godown — was directly referenced by director Anurag Kashyap as the template for the climax of Gangs of Wasseypur (2012). Kashyap said he made his actors watch that scene before shooting.
