• Asrani and Shoma Anand first shared screen space in Himmatwala (1983) because the director, K. Raghavendra Rao, needed a comic couple to balance Jeetendra and Sridevi's high-energy drama. Asrani was already a comedy staple, but Shoma was relatively new — he personally suggested her for the role after seeing her in a small TV appearance.
• In Aag Aur Shola (1986), Asrani played the nervous sidekick while Shoma played his sharp-tongued wife. The comedy came from her constantly cutting him off mid-sentence — she set the pace, and he had to react faster than usual. Asrani later said that working with her forced him to sharpen his timing because she never delivered a line the same way twice.
• On the sets of Pyar Ka Mandir (1988), Asrani and Shoma developed a running joke: every morning, he would bring her a cup of chai from the canteen, and she would pretend to hate it. This ritual became so consistent that the crew started timing their call-sheets around it. They stayed in touch for years after the film, though neither ever worked together again.
• Asrani once told a film magazine: 'Shoma had this way of looking at me like I was the biggest fool on earth — and that look made my comedy land every single time. I didn't have to try; she did half the work.'
• Their bickering-couple act in Himmatwala (1983) was so popular that it inspired a wave of similar comic duos in South Indian remakes of Hindi films. The Telugu version of Himmatwala directly copied their banter, and the actor-comedian pair who played their roles in that version went on to become a famous comedy team in Tollywood.
