• Ramesh Talwar was an established editor before he turned director. He cast Poonam Dhillon in 'Baseraa' (1981) after being impressed by her work in 'Trishul' — but she almost didn't take the role because she was juggling multiple films at once. Talwar personally convinced her by promising a meaty, non-glamorous part.
• On the set of 'Sawaal' (1982), Talwar realized Poonam was a fast learner who needed minimal takes — so he started giving her last-minute dialogue changes right before the camera rolled, just to keep her on her toes. She later said it made her sharper as an actress.
• After 'Zamana' (1985) flopped, Talwar and Dhillon didn't work together again — but they stayed in touch. In the 2000s, when Talwar was struggling to get directing work, Dhillon quietly recommended him for a TV series she was producing.
