• Sridevi was already a huge star in the South when she signed Mawaali (1983). Aruna Irani, a veteran character actress, was the one who suggested her for the film to the producers. That recommendation kicked off their only three-film run together.
• In Akalmand (1984), Sridevi played a loud, comic role while Aruna Irani played the straight-laced foil. Aruna later said in an interview that Sridevi would deliberately break character mid-scene to make her laugh, and the director kept those takes because the laughter felt real.
• On the sets of Mawaali, Aruna Irani noticed Sridevi was shy and barely spoke Hindi. Aruna took it upon herself to translate dialogues and even rehearse lines with her in the vanity van before every shot. They became close enough that Aruna called her 'Chhoti' (little one) for years after.
• Nigahen: Nagina Part II (1989) was the only sequel to the blockbuster Nagina (1986). Sridevi had starred in the original, but for the sequel, she only agreed to a cameo because Aruna Irani was playing the lead villain. That film exists only because of their friendship.
• Aruna Irani once told a film magazine: 'Sridevi was a child when I first worked with her. I used to feed her chai and biscuits between shots. She never forgot that. Even when she became the biggest star, she'd still call me 'Aruna didi' on set.'
